Keep On Bidding
Scaredy Cat
On the way to pick my cutie-pie, pandai mau mati niece and Ots up from KLIA, my boyfriend could not help but show-off his driving skills. We reached 240 km/hour on the long stretch coming up to the terminal!! I cant explain why, but my hands were over my mouth between 200 - 220 km/hour. Beyond that, they moved up to my eyes and I found my eyes were damp. I was crying. Damn, I was scared shitless.
My niece, Shannon Lissa Chim Pan Zee is so cute biut oh. Before she went to KK, she fell and bumped her eye on the edge of a stool (to those who have been to Ots place, its the teak stool they use to put their shoes on near the kitchen door). Anyway, on Tuesday, when they got back from the airport, I noticed that her eye was blue-black. She was lying on a mattress in the living room and I go up to her and sayang-sayang her eye, and the normal kesian-kesian shit we do to babies la. Suddenly, she gets up and just starts walking straight to the stool, to the exact area where she hit her eye and she points at it and feels it. So pandai oh she. She was showing us exactly where it happend. And this was like 5 days after it occurred. Damn geram oh. Another thing, a week ago, Shannon inherited a red Cheong Sam from a family friend. After the maid put it on her, she looked down at herself and said, "woww!". *sigh* *smile to myself*

The Girl From Ipoh
Last Thursday, I went to watch 'The Girl From Ipoh' at KL PAC with my B, my sisters and some friends. It was a musical play directed by a friend of B's. The acting was applaudable. Heard of Carmen Soo? So familiar, siapa ba dia ni? Anyways, she was the lead.
The plot was predicatable and a bit draggy. It is about a Chinese girl from Ipoh who comes from a typical Chinese family. Father sells 'Hor Hee' mee. She is ashamed of her roots and refuses to speak Chinese. Her dream is to be Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's) and marry a wealthy non-Chinese man, preferably foreign. The play is set in Wong Mei Lin (I am thinking this is her name but can't recall); the girl from Ipoh's brain; her thoughts. Her thoughts are represented by a choir of 'butch' women. In her mind, she is Holly Golightly aka Audrey Hepburn. Super gorgeous. But in reality she is 4'9" and weighs over 200lbs. Mei Lin longs to be worldly and sophisticated and creates this image to fool everyone around her. After completing her studies 'overseas' and adopting a foreign accent, she begins work in KL. Soon she falls in love with a 'sophisticated' local man who whadyya know, turns out to be a superjerk. Suddenly, she finds herself all alone and carrying an illegitimate child. Then, bla bla bla... you can pretty much figure out the rest. Several scenes were in Chinese which I do not understand but by the audience's reaction, I'm guessing these were the funny scenes. Albeit slightly draggy and predictable, the performance has strengthened my faith in Malaysian acting/directing talent. You will definitely hear more about future local theatricals from me. The Malaysian performing arts scene is definitely progressing. One last thing, the crowd was pretty interesting, trendy and artsy-fartsy. Quite refreshing compared to the 'clones' I see cramming up Megamall on Saturday's. As for myself, I try not to be a 'clone', always trying to keep my sense of uniqueness (ahem!) in a city of vanishing individuality. Everyone looks the same. But that is a whole different story all together. Anyway, I will be watching "Why You Still Fat?" this week. It stars Afdlin Shauki.

Prayer Doesn't Change His Plan
Last Sunday during his sermon, our priest told us that prayers dont (or wont) get answered. Everything that happens to us has been destined by God and no amount of prayer will change it. For example, when I prayed for a parking space last week and got one instantly, I was certain that my faith had a hand in it. In actual fact, it had nothing to do with my prayer or my faith. It wasn't luck neither. It was God's plan for me. Update, GOD DOESN'T ANSWER PRAYERS. No way! Prayer helps us accept the good and the bad as all part of God's plan. My faith is based 80% on my personal experiences with God and how every single time I have faithfully prayed he has never failed me. The remaining 20% is how God's presence in my life and heart has helped me deal with bad times or accept when things do not go as planned. Seeing what I know now, I am left with one question. How do I continue to strengthen my faith or even keep it alive? My limited understanding of faith is such; I know God is there because I humbly pray and he answers my prayer. I believe and I am thankful.
~
What will be will be. Whether you choose to pray or not to pray. People who keep vigil for the sick, are they praying in vain? Do we pray for a dying person to be healed or do we ask that he/she suffer less and accept his/her fate as God's will. Is there anything wrong in using the term 'fate' or 'destiny'?
~
Of course I am aware that prayer concerns more than us asking for things. It is also about communicating with God and fortifying our bond. It is about thanksgiving and praising. This completes a prayer. However, what worries me most, is that for the past 3 days, I find myself not bothering to pray for the small things. A vacant parking space for example, or a shoe that I fancy in my size or that no one is in the restroom with me as I 'drop the kids off at the pool'. I thank and I praise but what can I ask for or hope to change that he has not already determined and fixed?
~
So Yo, still praying for that winning lottery ticket?

Discussions From A Pantry
I got an SMS from my boss at 4.55 this morning and I knew this was a start to a long day.
@~(~~
My cubicle is 10 steps away from the pantry so I am always the first person to know when breakfast has arrived. The pantry on my floor is teeny-tiny compared to other floors. We dont even get breakfast tables and chairs. Dang it. Breakfast is had standing up with paper plates in one hand and plastic cups filled with piping hot coffee or mocha or Milo or teh tarik fresh from the machine. Yum.
@~(~~
So anyway, we had a three way discussion this morning in the pantry, between myself and two other male colleagues on how horrifying Mondays are after a long break. One colleague wore a tie to work to motivate himself. I didnt bother with the self-motivation. Quite impossible after a 4.55am SMS from the boss. Another colleague was in a total daze and was just standing there sipping his tea. Then suddenly, the topic of the upcoming Christmas holidays came up, 1 whole week shutdown and then Chinese New Year, another week off. My face lit up. It was enough to get me going through the rest of the day. One of those rare 'great to be Malaysian' feelings.
@~(~~
It is customary to witness a twice-weekly feud between my two superiors during our Operations Meetings held every Monday (Monday!) and our Department Meetings every Friday (Friday!). It is quite exciting when one slams his notebook shut and another just rolls his eyes (like it wont roll back down) and taps his fingers against the tabletop just a tad bit too hard. Aarghh! During the last meeting, the 'slam notebook shut' guy just gets up and walks out of the meeting room. So much drama. These two are at each others necks week after week. Initially its funny entertaining but now its downright annoying and a waste of time. Enough bickering boys, or at least do it on your own time.

A Huge BOULDER Lifted Off My SHOULDER
Yesterday was Deepavali. I wished my future in-laws, "Deepawali Waltukal", correct pronounciation and all, I think. Hey, i tried my best. Anyways, I arrived at their 70s style, detached home at 10.40am. Received a luke-warm welcome from his father and brother. A somewhat chilly one from the mam. Not a great start. Breakfast was served. Tosei with chicken rendang and mutton curry. I was stuffed (truly) but chewed and swallowed every morsel on my plate. Didn't want to offend anyone so early in the morning. It was going to be a long day.
The hours went by. I offered my services where I could. Friends and relatives came and went. Lunch was massive. I had a lot of tid-bits in between too. I cant go on eating like this. Stole a shot of Bacardi/Whisky from my B now and then to calm my nerves. It didn't really help somehow. B introduced me to all his relatives as his girlfriend this year. Pressure. So many names, so many faces. So little time to remember them all. Aunty's and cousins made conversation. I wasnt sure if it was real chit-chat or interviews. They were nice enough and welcoming too. I was complimented on my fully-Indian attire, Punjabi Suit with 'potu' and all. The color of the suit was be fitting me.
Towards the end of the night as I was wishing relatives farewell, one cousin came up to me and asked me when B and I plan on getting married. He told me that he will see me next Deepavali when B and I are husband and wife. Yikes. I told him we havent fixed a date (or year for that matter). Another aunty (and her mother - a typical, old saree-clad Indian lady) brought me to one side and told me to make my B stop drinking. He had a different drink in hand the whole night. He was fine though. If they only knew that I was having shots of my own in secret. Ha ha. Also, I was told by the same aunty that I should learn their language so that I can speak to old ladies (i.e her mother). Tamil 101 here I come. A different aunty, who happens to be a convert insisted that I bring my B to church one of these days. I told her I cant force him. She told me to pray for him. She also asked me if I have a Christian name. I told her it's Ramona. 'This is better', she said. 'I will call you, Ramo'. Great, add a 'b' and i'm Rambo. The things we do for the people we love. Sigh.
I left having good vibes. So this, I think is good. The time was 11.25pm when I reached home. It would have been 11.10pm if I didn't miss the exit and end up in Puchong. Ha ha. Getting lost is a good way to familiarize with roads. I wished my colleagues a Happy Deepavali at 11.55pm. Just in time.
